The experience

More than a fishing trip

Picture yourself casting in the middle of the rainforest, Arenal in the background, birds calling and the water perfectly still. That is what we look for every time we head out.

We are 10 kilometers from downtown La Fortuna, on the slopes of Arenal Volcano, surrounded by rainforest, volcanic rock and Laguna Tabacón. Our goal is the rainbow bass (guapote azul), a fish with vivid colors and a fighting spirit that has become the emblem of these waters.

This is more than a fishing outing. We want you to live a real Costa Rican expedition: unhurried, close to nature and led by people who know the place. The boat, the fly and the volcano set the scene; the memories do the rest.

01 — The tour

Arenal Rainbow Bass

Fly fishing from a boat on Laguna Tabacón, with Arenal Volcano as the backdrop.

We fish the banks, the shade lines and the calm water for rainbow bass. We adapt the technique and the flies to your level, whether it is your first cast or you have been fishing for years. Your guide handles the boat, the gear and safety; you focus on fishing.

02 — The species

The star: rainbow bass

Guapote azul. Vivid colors, a stubborn fight and a reputation for getting away.

The rainbow bass is one of the most prized freshwater species in Costa Rica. In the lagoon it holds along the banks and in the shade, and when it eats, it does not give up easily. That is why we chase it with a fly: reading the water, presenting well and waiting for that moment when the line goes tight.

We admire it, photograph it and release it. The kind of fishing we care about leaves the lagoon the same or better than we found it.
