Conservation
Catch and release, careful handling and respect for the forest and the water.
About us
More than 16 years on the water, a company founded by Esteban Blanco and a local team that knows every bank around Arenal.

Our story
Guanacaste Fly Fishing was born more than 16 years ago in the waters of Costa Rica's northern Pacific coast. Over the years, fly fishing took us to other places: rivers, lagoons and the rainforest around Arenal.
La Fortuna Fly Fishing is the next chapter of that story, on the slopes of the volcano. We did not come here to invent a tour. We came to fish water we already knew, with local guides and one idea: every trip should feel like a Costa Rican expedition, not a generic tour.
We are a small operation on purpose. We prefer small groups, real attention and time to explain. Fly fishing is personal, and so should the service be.

The path
One idea, two settings. This is what brought us here.
Born on the northern Pacific coast with one idea: fish with local knowledge and high standards.
Esteban Blanco earns IGFA world records and works with American brands.
Fly fishing leads us to the rainforest and Laguna Tabacón, at the foot of Arenal.
One carefully run experience, with local guides and conservation in mind.
What drives us
Not posters on a wall: decisions we make on the water.
Catch and release, careful handling and respect for the forest and the water.
Every trip includes instruction for your level; we do not just fish, we learn.
Checked gear, life vests, briefings and prudent decisions.
Punctuality, clear communication and attention to detail.
The founder
Costa Rican angler, founder of Guanacaste Fly Fishing and La Fortuna Fly Fishing.
Esteban is an internationally recognized Costa Rican angler. He holds IGFA world records, has a deep knowledge of fly fishing in Costa Rica, works with prestigious American brands and has taken part in photography and audiovisual productions at ICAST.
His idea for La Fortuna Fly Fishing is simple: fish well, with respect, alongside local people. A guide who knows the water, gear that is up to the task, and a memory that lasts longer than the trip.

The team
The difference between a good day of fishing and a memorable one is usually the guide.
Our guides are from the area and know the lagoon, the weather and the banks. They know where to look when the wind changes and when it is better to stay still. They also know when to stop fishing: safety and the wellbeing of the fish come first.
We work in Spanish and English, with small groups and personal attention. If it is your first time with a fly rod, we start from zero. If you already fish, we find the next challenge.
